Message from the Director

In 1979, the Agricultural Mechanization Development Program (AMDP) was established under the then Institute of Agricultural Engineering Technology of the University of the Philippines Los Baños. AMDP’s main function is to help modernize Philippine agriculture by continuously doing Research and Extension activities concerning Agricultural Mechanization. Through the years, many technologies were already developed and promoted to different areas nationwide were these technologies were most suitable. Aside from the technologies developed, AMDP has established its core of technical experts in developing and formulating mechanization-related policies, spearheading different mechanization projects and as experts in the drafting of standards among others. AMDP was likewise instrumental in the drafting of the AFMech Law and its IRR.

With its numerous achievements and crucial role not only in the University but in the National level as well, AMDP was elevated to the Center for Agri-Fisheries and Biosystems Mechanization (BIOMECH) in 2015 to effectively pursue its mandate in alleviating the plight of our marginalized sector by continuously doing innovative agricultural and biosystems engineering interventions.
